Calcium AKG (Alpha-Ketoglutarate)
Cellular energy · longevity · epigenetic clock
Calcium AKG: Cellular energy · longevity · epigenetic clock. A Krebs cycle metabolite that supports mitochondrial energy and has shown promising effects on biological age markers. Standard dose 1000 mg, taken in the morning, about $35/month. Evidence rating: moderate evidence.
What is Calcium AKG?
Calcium alpha-ketoglutarate (Ca-AKG) is a metabolic intermediate in the Krebs cycle and a key player in cellular energy production, collagen synthesis, and epigenetic regulation. AKG levels decline approximately 10-fold by age 80. In animal studies, AKG supplementation extended median lifespan by 12% and compressed end-of-life frailty. A 2021 human pilot study from the Buck Institute reported an average 8-year reduction in biological age (measured by DNA methylation clocks) after 7 months of supplementation. Standard dose is 1,000 mg per day, taken with food.
