What is Lactoferrin?
Lactoferrin is an iron-binding glycoprotein found in milk (especially colostrum), tears, and other body secretions. It is a key part of the innate immune system, with documented antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, and immunomodulatory activity. Clinical trials show benefits for recurrent respiratory infections, iron-deficiency anemia (lactoferrin improves iron absorption while reducing GI side effects), and gut microbiome balance. The recombinant and bovine-sourced forms are both effective. Standard dose is 100-400 mg per day, on an empty stomach for immune use or with iron-rich meals for absorption support.
