Phosphatidylserine (PS) is a phospholipid concentrated in cell membranes, particularly within neurons. Its supplementation has two distinct evidence-based applications. First, in adults with age-related memory complaints, PS has been shown to support memory recall, recognition, and processing speed. Second, in stressed populations, PS appears to blunt the cortisol response to physical and mental stressors, a finding particularly relevant for athletes managing overtraining and for high-stress professionals. Most studies use 100 mg three times daily, though 100-300 mg once daily is also effective. PS is typically derived from soy lecithin or sunflower lecithin.
