What is Eleuthero?
Eleuthero (Eleutherococcus senticosus), formerly called Siberian ginseng, is a thorny Russian shrub used as an adaptogen since the 1960s. Unlike true Panax ginsengs, eleuthero is generally gentler and better tolerated for long-term daily use. Soviet-era research (and more recent Western trials) demonstrate improvements in physical endurance, mental performance under stress, and immune cell counts during illness. The primary actives, eleutherosides B and E, appear to modulate the HPA axis without stimulating it. Standard dose is 300-1200 mg of extract or 2-8 g of dried root per day.
