What is Schisandra Berry?
Schisandra chinensis (wǔ wèi zǐ, 'five-flavor berry') is a foundational adaptogen in traditional Chinese medicine, prized for nourishing all five Yin organs simultaneously. Its lignans, schisandrin A, B, and C, have demonstrated hepatoprotective effects (raising glutathione, lowering liver enzymes), as well as benefits for endurance, mental performance, and stress resilience. Schisandra is unusual in being both calming and energizing, depending on context. Standard dose is 500-2000 mg of dried berry or 100-500 mg of standardized extract per day.
