What is Ginkgo Biloba?
Ginkgo biloba is one of the oldest tree species on earth, with leaves that have been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for thousands of years. Standardized extracts, typically EGb 761 with 24% flavonoid glycosides and 6% terpene lactones, are among the most-studied botanical interventions for cerebral circulation and age-related cognitive support. Ginkgo improves microcirculation and platelet function, which underlies its use for memory, concentration, tinnitus, and cold extremities. Clinical doses are 120-240 mg per day in divided doses. Because it has mild blood-thinning effects, it should not be combined with anticoagulant medications without medical supervision.
