What is Glutathione?
Glutathione is the body's master antioxidant, present in every cell and central to detoxification, immune function, and antioxidant defense. Levels fall with age and oxidative stress. Most oral glutathione is destroyed in the gut, but the patented Setria form, produced via fermentation by Kyowa Hakko, has been shown in a placebo-controlled trial to raise blood, red blood cell, and lymphocyte glutathione levels after 6 months at 1000 mg/day. Standard dose is 250-1000 mg per day. NAC and glycine are precursors that more reliably raise endogenous glutathione synthesis.
