What is Oregano Oil?
Oil of oregano is concentrated from Origanum vulgare and standardized to its active phenols, carvacrol and thymol. These compounds show broad antimicrobial and antifungal activity in laboratory studies and are used short-term for gut balance and seasonal immune support. Because it is potent, oregano oil is best taken in enteric or emulsified softgels to avoid heartburn, and cycled rather than taken continuously, since it can affect beneficial gut bacteria too. Avoid in pregnancy and alongside blood thinners. Look for a product standardized to at least 55 to 70 percent carvacrol.
